LeBron’s return to Cleveland was everything that people thought it would be. Lots of booing, hateful chants and the Heat blowing out the Cavs. LeBron showed no mercy on the Cavs scoring 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists without even playing the 4th quarter as the Heat handled the Cavs 118-90. Prior to the game, extra security and police were on hand to make sure that nothing got out of hand and beer was poured into cups rather than handing serving bottles to cut down on potential flying objects. Also, fans were forbidden to wear any clothing or display signs that were deemed vulgar to LeBron. Fortunately, the game went without incident as the fans keep their cool and showed their displeasure through boos and chants.
Some of the chants that could be heard were “Akron Hates You” as well as “Scottie Pippen” among others including some with profanity. However, former Cav Zydrunas Ilgauskas received a heavy cheer from the fans for his service during his long tenure on the team. During the game LeBron could be seen joking with the Cavs players and coaches and received a big hug from Anderson Varejao. Many fans and analysts were upset with these gestures and thought that they should have ignored LeBron. In my opinion, I think that the players understand why LeBron left more than the fans do and understand that it’s a business.
I don’t think that LeBron will ever have the respect of the Cavs fans for the rest of his life and will just have to deal with the boos but I am sure he is used to it as he gets booed in every city he goes to on the road.
