Recently ESPN has announced they plan to release a website entitled “Heat Index” which plans to cover the Heat and their upcoming season. It plans to launch on October 11. This website is in addition to ESPN covering the Heat what seems like every day during training camp. ESPN has had a love affair with LeBron since he joined the league much like their love affair for Brett Favre and Tim Tebow. It appears that LeBron and the Heat have become public enemy number and ESPN seems to be helping LeBron and the Heat accomplish this status.
Some of things that have been reported to be on the website is a banner that reads “Chase for 72” referring to the Bulls win record and a triple-double tracker for LeBron who will attempt to average one this season. ESPN continues to make the target on LeBron and the Heats back even bigger whether the Heat wants it or not. I probably speak for a lot of people who wish there was a similar alternative to ESPN who reported the news and didn’t have love affairs with players.
In addition to ESPN, LeBron continues to widen the target on his back with some of the things that he has said recently. LeBron recently said that he believes that him being black had something to do with the negative attitude being displayed towards him. Now whether or not this is the case is an entirely different debate but if your LeBron why do you say such of thing? The public has a negative attitude towards you for the most part so you decide to play the race card? I’m not sure what he hoped to gain from these comments and it just continues to make him look like an idiot. It was bad enough to do “The Decision” (hosted by ESPN by the way) and then hide behind it by rationalizing it in that it helped raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. That special might have of been one of the worse public relations decision for an athlete ever.
My feelings for LeBron and ESPN continue to diminish and if there was better alternative to sports coverage I would certainly switch. I, along with thousands of others, will watch with much anticipation as the season unfolds in hopes of LeBron and the Heat to fail. It really is too bad that one of the best players to play this game has fallen so far from grace. O well at least we have Kevin Durant.
