News From Around the League

There have been a few different headline news stories over the past few days.   The first is that of Carlos Boozer who has broken his hand and will miss 2 months to recover from surgery.  Boozer claims he tripped over his gym bag while attempting to answer the door.  Not everyone is buying this excuse and many people feel that the type of break in his hand is more likely to have come from a punch.  Taj Gibson is likely to start in Boozer’s spot until he is ready to come back.  It seems that Boozer misses time every year due to injury and the Bulls knew this before signing Boozer.  The Bulls should be ok as long as Boozer comes back fully healthy.

More news regarding the Bulls is that Joakim Noah has signed an extension worth 60 million over 5 years.  This is a decent amount of money for the type of talent that Noah is.  I was worried that the Bulls were going to give him in the upwards of 70 million which would have been too high.  It will be interesting to see what happens with Noah and if signing this big contract will have any effect on his play.  It wouldn’t be the first time that a good player gets a fat contract and then does nothing  for the rest of his career.

The trade rumors have certainly cooled down for Carmelo and no news has been reported in the past few days.  Also, Tony Parker has expressed that he wants to stay with the Spurs after rumors said that the point guard might be dealt to get younger with George Hill.

In other news, the defending NBA champs L.A. Lakers will square off with the Minnesota Twolves in London.  David Stearn continues to try and take the NBA global and this is just another way to further showcase the NBA to other countries and get people the opportunity to see an NBA game that they would otherwise not have the chance too.  Kobe will only play limited minutes while Andrew Bynum (Knee) and Luke Walton (Hamstring) are out.
