One of the most active teams this offseason other than the Heat was the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls actively tried to sign one of the big 3 and lately have been involved in talks with attempting to trade for Carmelo Anthony. However, their unwillingness to part with Joakim Noah has stalled those talks and the Nuggets are speaking with other teams. Despite not landing one of superstars, the Bulls were able to sign stars Carlos Boozer (Jazz), Kyle Korver (Jazz), C.J. Watson (Warriors), Kurt Thomas (Bucks), Keith Bogans (Spurs), and Ronnie Brewer (Jazz). They were able to draft center Omer Asik. Notable players that left the Bulls is Kirk Hinrich (Wizards), Brad Miller (Rockets), and Hakim Warrick (Suns).
I was very happy with the Bulls this offseason with the players they signed despite not getting a big superstar. Boozer is a legit PF and is an interior scorer which the Bulls have desperately needed. Korver, Watson, and Bogans will provide great depth at guard and are all legititamite 3 point shooters. Kurt Thomas will be a solid backup who won’t score much but can rebound and play solid defense. Ronnie Brewer will probably be the starting SG and will be an athletic wing player who can defend and get to the basket. It’s unknown what effect Asik will have this year.
Bulls are viable threat this year in the East after finishing 8th last year. Derrick Rose is looking to become an even better player this while Noah and Taj Gibson continue to grow into terrific big men. The Bulls will go as far as Rose as able to take them. The Bulls will be in trouble, however, if they have to rely on Rose to score the majority of their points. Luol Deng and Boozer need to help ease the pressure off Rose and be able to score when called upon. I like the Bulls to take 3rd this year in the East behind the Magic and the Heat.
Here is how I see the Bulls depth chart this year.
PG- Rose, Watson, John Lucas
SG- Brewer, Korver, Bogans
SF- Deng, James Johnson
PF- Boozer, Gibson, Brian Scalabrine, Chris Richard
C- Noah, Thomas, Asik
******Even though I have Johnson listed as 2nd in the SF I believe we will see a combination of Deng and one of the 3 SGs or even using Watson as a shooting guard before Johnson sees any minutes.
